An underlying theme in
Ed Brodkin's recent works concerns"Communications".
Forms and symbols from the so-called "primitive" to
the binary numbers of cybernetics are employed, referring
to our species' evolved efforts to send, receive
and preserve information and discoveries. as well
as telling and perpetuating untruths and foolish
myths.
Mr. Brodkin uses a personal, painterly vocabulary with acrylics, enamels, glazes,
varnishes, collage, reversed stretched canvases and occasional, unusual shaped
grounds to intrigue and hold the viewer. A critic recently wrote, "The visual
pleasures are many for he is an artist who absolutely revels in his materials.
He creates mixed media paintings that are at once thoughtful and tactile, visually
powerful and rich in meaning. He is a visionary with a perpetual "twinkle
in his eye."
Mr. Brodkin's training includes The Cooper Union (BFA). He has exhibited in Spain,
Germany, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and many other sites in the U.S. including
solos at the Pleiades Gallery in Chelsea. He has also shown in many juried competitions
whose jurors include Dan Cameron, Donald Kuspit, Andre Emmerich, Holly Solomon,
and Charlotta Kotik. His work is in many private collections in the U.S. as well
as in Japan and Vancouver, B.C.
